Taiwan (ROC) is generally considered to be the most friendly region in the Asian region for LGBTQ interests. The gay parade held on the last Saturday of October attracts hundreds of thousands of people and is currently the largest gay activity in Asia. The Gender Equality Education Act and the Gender Work Equality Act, which were enacted in 2003 and 2007, that is required to educate the public to respect gender differences, including sexual orientation, gender expression and eliminate gender discrimination. Also to promote substantive equality of gender status.

On 24 May 2017, the Constitutional Court ruled that the current marriage laws are unconstitutional and that same-sex couples should have the right to marry. The court has given the Parliament (Legislative Yuan) a maximum of two years to amend or enact laws so that same-sex marriage is legally recognized. According to the court ruling, if the Parliament fails to do so by 24 May 2019, same-sex marriage will automatically become legal.

One and a half years have passed, and the legislative departments have been stagnating. the KMT Caucus and the conservative groups, which are based on the Christian right, tried to prevent the passage of equal rights in marriage and asked to withdraw of comrade education from primary and secondary schools in the form of a "referendum." Forty years of hard work by the LGBTQ groups may be lost because of this.

We invited Robin, a senior educator from Wuhan. He has finished his studies at the beginning of this year in Taiwan to promote marriage equality and has put together charity organizations serving the LGBTQ community. He will review and lead us to discuss the historical process of Taiwan's marriage equality and also to talk about the opportunity for LGBTQ groups to participate in social change after the emergence of the Anti Homosexuals Referendum.

At the same time, Robin and Matthew, as someone whos been involved in the movement of LGBTQ people, will also share with us their stories of living in Taipei.
